98 Expedition O2 sensor

I was thinking about gutting my downstream converters and was wondering if anyone had information on dummy O2 sensors. The downstream sensors are going bad and I thought that instead of replacing them with new ones I would replace with dummies. That would allow me to remove or gut the two large downstream converters and improve exhaust flow a little. I also plan to install true duals with a cross over pipe. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Hoseman

Never heard of dummy O2 sensors. Can't see how they would benefit since they regulate your fuel mixture. If you lose them, you send a default code, they have to work. You can upgrade the exhaust and still use them.

I remember reading something about them in an off-road magazine. They send a code indicating the mixture is correct after the converters. You rely entirely on the first sensor located upstream from the converters for your fuel mixture. My thought was to get rid of the 2nd set of converters since it comes from the factory with four. Less restriction coupled with an upgraded computer or chip should enhance the performance to offset larger tires.

Well, this sounds like you have this figured out. Hope it works for ya, I just don't like the idea of trying to fool the computer, usually gets ya later. Just my opinion. Good luck.

Yeah, the downstream sensors don't and won't affect engine performance. All they do is "monitor."

Another guy wanted to do the same thing a while back. There is a product the Mustang guys use to do this. Check out this thread for more info.
