Just purchased a junker 1979 f150 with a 351m/400 and a four speed transmission. No clutch in the transmission and the flyweel bolt pattern doesn't match up to either of the clutch kits for the 351m or 400. However, the pattern is similar to that of the 351m but the holes creep off by about 1/8 of an inch as you move around the pattern.
I took the flywheel to the dealership and they could not match the serial number to any engine or transmission eventhough it has ford clearly stamped on it. The serial number is D7TE 6380 DG (the G looks misshaped could be a C or O).
This is a ball buster, any help would be asppreciated.
there are 2 types of clutch used over the years. 3 finger type, and diaphram type. the 2 types have different bolt spacing. i just ran into this problem on a small block. just have to use the pressure plate for the flywheel.
True the pattern on the diaphram type was very close but 11" as perscribed for the 351M. The 400 or 12" I tried was the 3 finger type, maybe I need to take a look and see if there is a 12" diaphram pressure plate. I think that is what you are getting at..
