Hi everyone, is there anyone that regrets getting the 4.6l insted of the bigger engine, I feel that the 4.6l is not cutting it, I not towing or racing but come on it sucks. Since I have it already is there anything I can do to it. Please HELP!!!
should be tuners available soon to give the 4.6 / 5.4 more power that should help everyone out. i have the 5.4 and i dont tow anything but i do like to race from time to time. i just thought for what little difference in the fuel economy there is, the 5.4 would be a better option.
i have a 4.6 and love the motor. it's smooth, quiet and it can get out of it's own way. i tow all i need to tow, (3500 lbs.) and it does great. if i wanted just a fast truck, i would have bought a dodge, but i wanted the best truck. plus, i get 17 to18 mpg every tank, mixed driving. i can't wait to get this thing in the woods and flop a few deer in the back. everybody knows this is not a high performance motor but is real reliable and adequate for most jobs, that's the facts.
I personally like the 5.4 , but I do want more power from it. I want it to REALLY get up and move when I hit the go pedal. Eventually, I will get intake, exhaust, and powerchip, reprogrammer. Maybe even an electric fan. But this will all take time. Rome wasnt built in a day.
I've got the 4.6 and although I don't reget it... at times I would like more power. I've put on a Flowmaster exhaust but don't notice any extra power. I've been thinking there are alot of aftermarket parts for the 4.6L engine like Heads, Cam, Intake Manifolds, and superchargers for real performance gains. This is basically the same motor that's in the Mustang. The F150's intake manifold has longer rails to give the engine more torque at the expense of Horsepower. Exhaust, FIPK and Electric fans are minimal gains. I just don't know how that would all play out with the '04 computer right now.
I am happy with my 4.6, I wasnt expecting a rocketship with a 5000lb Supercrew anyways, but I was pleasantly suprised at the power on the highway, and it is far above my 98 4.6L manual trans STX Reg cab.
There us no way your going to spend 5g and swap a engine. So what if you have all the power, doesn't mean it is going to hit the wheels. I would suggest new high-perf. Torque converter, get some 4.10's with a locker.
why not nitrous? its a lot less money than blowers, superchargers, etc. i had a nitrous kit, guages, chip, air box, exhaust on my 03 ranger that i traded in on my 04 fx4 scab. really made the ranger run and turn some heads.
I am happy with the 4.6, it has plenty of power for me.
I just came back from a mountain trip, and it had plenty of power for passing in the mountains .... plus on this trip I got 19 - 20 mpg, doing an average of 60 mph on state highways.
The new F150 is the overall best driving truck I ever had.

One the subject of mountains, 90 uphill with 700lbs of camping equitment in the back is pretty good and it wasnt even struggling.
