Help Spark Plug changing tips

Why would ford put a plug in this spot?
Well I have gotten out the infamous plug
in the back on the drivers side but I can
not get the one in the middle. Same Side.
The Air Conditioner unit is in the way.
any tips on removal of the Boot and plug?
I can get my hand in there but no room to pull.
Help Please

Help Spark Plug changing tips

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Jul-02 AT 11:38 PM (EST)]Well, I am not sure what year or engine you have, but on my '97 you can get to the plugs through the fenderwell. Take the front tires off and you will see a removable flap that is held in place by push pins. Take those down, and the plugs are right there - easily accessible.

Hope this helps you....

Help Spark Plug changing tips

Got to the one in the rear that way
But the center one was a .
I did finally get it by unplugging a vaccum
line to get it out of the way, and removing the
bolt for the tranny dipstick as this allowed
another inch or so of room.
The make and model of my rig is
1999 explorer 4wd xlt 4.0 sohc
Thanks for the help

Ohhh...

Thanks for the tips. Mine (same make/model) is taking a few seconds to "catch" when I go to start it up. If the new fuel filter doesn't do the trick, I'm thinking of doing plugs / wires / etc.

Doesn't the 4.0L SOHV supposed to have platinum plugs that are good to 100k? Do they really last that long? Would you replace them with the same or just go with a good-quality regular spark plug?

Thanks in advance. Although I know a lot about maintaining my '88 Mustang, I have a lot to learn about this vehicle still.

I ran my first set of plugs for 92,000 before changing them. Had no problems with them even when I changed them, just felt like it was time. I went back with the platinums - they are a good plug. I don't know what the differences would be by running a standard plug, so can't help there...

Just a side note on the platnium plugs
my rig was starting to run rough and
I just figuired I woul dstart there.
I bought new Platniums dual point that ran
about 5.99 each and new wires at 35.99
and what difference it made.
we are going on a pretty good road trip
next week and I will post back as to highway
performance as compared to before.
