I see 14 HP and 150 ft. lbs. difference, am I correct? Could this just be the difference in '03 and '04 trucks we have been hearing about?
I read part 1 of a 4 part series about tuners that Ken put out awhile ago comparing the different tuners on the same truck / same dyno. Have any other of the series come out yet with direct comparisions of the tuners on the same vehicle/dyno?
Twin.... appreciate the approach to find the right answer for you !
If I am reading SC post correctly and comparing it to my dyno sheet in my gallery:
first :
You KNOW SC is just typing it -
it's not a dyno sheet and I'm SURE it was beyond IDEAL conditions....
Mine is a real dyno sheet in North Texas when it was VERY hot outside - very much less than ideal conditions :-)
be that as it may lets compare what we do have...
SC makes 373 HP @ 3500 RPMS & 581 ftlbs @ 3200 rpms
DP made 378 HP @ between 2900-3400 (too flat to tell where peak was)
and 709 ftlbs @ 2300 rpms...
not sure what I know about all this,
but logically the higher hp at lower rpms (and a VERY broad range) coupled with the 129 ftlb more torque @ 900 rpm less sounds like a BIG difference to me...
And Bob's was higher than mine with a split intercooler hose on the same hot day !
but hey, I may not know a THING about what I'm talking about
Daryl,
you had any dyno runs or timed events with the Superchips as a comparative tool ?
No, I might take the truck over to Carlsbad one of these days and run the 1/4. It's still amazing to think that this truck might run 14 something compared to my R1 doing a 10.90 given that one weighs about 400 lbs and the other weighs 15 to 20 times as much.
I'd like to get a dyno run of it one of these days too.
Both of these things not so much because I worry about which product eaks out an edge over the other, but mainly to put the data out there.
I'm pleased with the performance improvement and driveability of the SC so far.
I have made a graph of the numbers on Superchips website and posted it in my gallery. The graph is a little easier to understand than the table IMO. The most noticable thing about the Superchips tuner is the wide power band. It just seems to never quit pulling! The table on the website is an 04 strategy truck which we have been told makes about 70 lbs/ft less torque than the 03's. I have been running the 1704 Superchips tuner since it's release (mostly in Econo mode) and I am very pleased with it's drivability and performance. I had a problem with harsh shifting in Econo mode which was taken care of to my satisfaction after sending the tuner back at MY expense. I was NOT very pleased with that! I haven't dynoed my truck yet, but the seat of the pants meter says wooooo hoooooo! I would love to try a predator to see if the drivability is as good as Superchips. That being the case, I would rather have the Predator due to the online update and live monitoring capability. I think the Predator and Superchips tuners are both the best money one could spend on the 6.0. BTW, my highway mileage in Econo mode is hitting close to 19mpg at 70 - 75.
I've been keeping up with the Superchips vs. Predator conversations for the past few months almost everyday to decide which one is best. My truck is a 2004 with an 8/03 build date and a 2003 tag on the motor. Would I be one of those ones with that would make more power with the Superchips because it's an 03? I'm told I would have to get a newer flash to run the Superchips program (9/29/03 or later), so would that mean I would be running 04 strategy resulting in the lower power numbers?
(Quote)My Predator will never see 105 H.P. because I don't want to invest in the other nec. stuff @ that H.P...Not only that but I'm getting to ding dang old to go that fast that quick these days.(End Quote)
P.S. What are the extras needed to make the 105HP on the Predator?
