Rain, rain
With all the rain we have had in various parts of our country I though this would be apropos:
Old Marcel was living in the bayou as he had for many years. This one particular spring, it had been raining for two weeks straight. One early morning the civil defense boat pulls up along Marcel’s house (shack really) and the civil defense man calls to Marcel: “Old man, get your belongings and come to the boat. The dam is projected to spill over and you’ll be flooded out.” Marcel replies: “You all go on ahead, God’s gonna take care of me.”
Later that afternoon, the water has risen up to the porch and the civil defense boat returns. “Old man, come with us now! The dam has spilled over and is projected to bust open!” Marcel replies: “God has always said he’ll take care of me, go on ahead and take care of the others.”
Late that night, Marcel is clinging to the chimney. The water had risen almost to the top of his roof. A large helicopter swoops in and in the bright spotlight, there sits old Marcel. Over the helicopter’s PA system Marcel hears: “Grab a hold of the rope, this is your last chance, the dam has busted and you will be swept away.” And of course Marcel waves them off exclaiming “God’s gonna take care of me.”
Now, the scene switches to heaven…
Marcel is before God and God asks him if he has anything he’d like to say. Being a modest and meek man, (and thankful he made it to heaven) Marcel did not want to offend. “God, I’ve always trusted in you. You said that if I believed in you and loved you I would always be taken care of and now, I am here in front of you, I was sure you would always take care of me.”
God replies: “You dummy, I sent you two boats and a helicopter.”
