my diesel is running hotter than normal, but when it is turned off for a little bit, say 30 min or so, and start it back up, it is running alot cooler like it normally is. would this be the thermostat sticking or something. i looked under the hood and it looks like its gonna be a doozie to change. any suggestions would be appreciated.
I believe my thermostat is bad on my truck. I have an Autometer guage and it will move up to 220* before the thermostat opens and it comes back down to 200*. What temperature of thermostat should I get for my truck? I'm thinking a 195* or 200*? Thanks.
I mostly drive solo, but ocasionally pull a trailer ranging from 2,500 - 10,000 pounds. I am thinking that a 190* would be good for me? Should I go to FORD or trust what Advance has to offer? Thanks
It will not make any difference in the ability of the engine to get heat out the radiator what temperature of thermostat you put in. So putting in a 195 will not make it overheat any more than it would have before. That being said about the only thermostat that is acceptable for these trucks is the one you get from Ford or International which is the same thing. These thermostats are application-specific.
I got an 190 thermostat from napa. Works great. I ONLY work this truck. tow 7500lb trailer. Like I said Ford recommends a 190 thermastat, so thats what I put in. My gauge was bad giving me bad readings. I problably had a good thermastat before the change out, but not knowing about the faulting gauge problem with older Fords I opted for a new thermestat. After change out gauge still had faulty readings. Unplugged factory gauge put in mechanical gauge and now all is good, running at 190-200, hauling or not.
