Ok I have been told that my Axle Ratio on my Explorer is a 3.55 LS because my door jam says D4. Well today I was looking under my truck because I am getting ready to tow a boat ( Leads to my next question ) and I decided to try and Decifer my axle tags well one of them says what type of lube to use and the other says what the ratio is it says "3L73" which means I have a 3.73 LS axle not a 3.55 LS!! Ok is the door jam wrong or is my source wrong????
Ok second question, I just got finished reading, HERE , that Ford made the Trailer towing Prep Pkg. standard on all V8 Equipped Explorers. Well I dont have one and my is a 2000 and a V8! Is this artical wrong or did I not get one!
Sorry for the long post I tend to get carried away!!
Yeah, you have 3.73LS. The only axles available with LS is 3.73 and 4.10. I have 4.10 LS rear end. The door sticker is right. D4 is 3.73LS and D2 is 4.10.
The tow package includes tranny cooler and trailer light harness. If you don't have it, it's probably been misplaced or never got it from the dealer.
Ok I have a Tranny cooler and a Wiring harness but no trailer hitch, why whould I have all of that eguipment if i didn't have the trailer towing prep packege? Also how do I go about getting one from Ford B/c I know I had to of paied for it !!!!!
Tow package doesn't come with the hitch. I have no idea why but it doesn't come with it. You have to buy your own hitch. Plus, Ford provided a mount where you can mount the tow ball in the bumper. It's called a bumper hitch. It can tow up to 3,500lbs. If you want a hitch, get one from JC Whitney or something. It's like $110 plus shipping.
I bought the Hidden Hitch tube type two inch square receiver for my '99. I think is the best looking receiver for the Explorer, other than the new integrated one that Ford puts on current explorers. I researched all the receivers and the Hidden Hitch has the highest capacity, looks the best (don't see much of it at all), requires no drilling, super easy to install (but should us a torque wrench), and costs only $120 (local trailer store).
