What about cops that speed and drive like morons? I see them all the time and unless they begin to obey the law then they shouldnt be issuing speeding tickets.
The CHP here has some low-profile cars, Crown Vics painted all white with just the star on the door and no external lights, so it's tougher to ID them from the front or rear...but the Crown Vic still has that "Cop Look", so you can usually tell. And it burns me up too to see the abuses of the traffic laws that many cops display, speeding, blowing through stop signs, not signaling turns or lane changes, yapping on the cell phone as they drive. They can always say that they were on their way to a call, but I don't see any flashing lights a lot of the time, and my understanding of the law was that if they are not going code 3 with lights and sirens, then they must obey all traffic laws. When I see one blow past me at 75 in a 55, driving with one hand while he talks on the cell phone, I figure he's checking around to see who's got the freshest donuts and is trying to be first in line. -TD
By law even if they are going code 3 they can only exceed the posted speed limit by 15mph and obay all lights and stop signs, but who is going to inforce that? If you are in trouble you want them there ASAP and owever they get the is does not matter.
You could always get the number of the car and make a complaint about they way they drive when on duty. Don't forget about the tin star way out of a ticket. Retired cops always keep the licence next to the badge.
Here is another good one that the DPS does from time to time when board. They will get in the middle lane of the freeway and start slowing down until someone gets over the fear of passing the cop. A friend of mine stated that the winner got a whole group of people down to 35 by this. They did it to me once and I was just like the other sheep, until we were doing 45 and I set the cruse back to 65. He got on side of me and laughed and waved.
It is a proven fact that speeding is less dangerous than tailgating. The German's (with the autobaun) have no speed limits, you can litterally go as fast as you want. They're restrictions are tailgating and making sure slower traffic stays on the right lanes.
The reason why they don't do anything about tailgating is because it's too hard to prove and the fines are not as high as speeding. I was told this by the driving instructor at a driving school I went to. People don't understand that when you're closer than say 3-4 seconds from the car infront of you, it's phyiscally impossible to stop before they do if they slam the brakes.
We did a test at the school. Our highways here are very busy at times, and we set the cars up so that the distance allowed was close to what most people would run on the highways here. We put the cars side by side, with a rope about 40-50 feet long out the back of 1 car. The car would get up to about 50 mph, and I'd be to his right, trying to keep my front end at the end of the rope (simulating the right space between the cars). I knew he was going to slam on the brakes, I was anticipating it, and I still could not stop before he did. I sailed by every time, as much as 20-30 feet past the rear of his car.
The roads in Germany are statistically safer than ours, by a fair amount too. They educate much better, and they have a more efficient roadway system.
The heck with the speeders I wish the cops would go after people that don't use there turn signals, Passing on the right, tailgating and failuer to yeild. Why don't the cops ever do any thing about that?
On rt13 in delaware the speed limit goes from 55 to about 35mph when in the little towns on one section you have the median between the roads and a burger king on the right as you go towards VA. on that median you will find corporal moran waiting for out of state speeders. just about everyone I know that drove thru there got a speeding ticket. if you are not doing the posted speed limit corporal moron will get star on his report card on his way to police chief.. in KY just past the TN KY state line. i got clocked at 98mph in a 65mph zone and boy it was not pretty. I was trying to past a slow moving driver who due to a brain cramp was doing 45 on the passing lane and a truck was entering the highway so i flored it and paid the price the trooper passed me as i came to a halt and he passed me cause he was going must faster than me. I did not mean to speed but i did and i paid a hefty price even though he only ticketed me for overtaking traffic instead of speeding cause he felt pitty since i had just been divorced hours earlier... if you speed its goig to cost more than you are willing to pay. I paid $350.00 plus cause i was on vacation and miss the court date so it was not cheap

A couple of months ago there was a moron cop that was speeding without his lights and sirens on a emergency call to protect the public and get a cat from a tree and he ran thourgh a couple of stopsigns before slamming into a women and her 3 year old child. The child was killed and the woman critical and permanelty injured.

Because it's not easily proveable in court disputes. The German's use camera's and video. On something like a bridge overpass, they put two lines on the road. If car B passes his line before car A passed his, he's too close and gets a ticket in the mail.
It's no more difficult than busting someone for speeding. Think about it; what real, hard evidence does the officer have that you were going over the limit? Does he have video? Does he have audio? Does he have a witness? It's your word against his. The truth is that it's a Constitutional issue. According to the Constitution, there is no such thing as a "law enforcement" officer. This is an individual who enforces the law for the sake of the law. According to the Constitution, Police Officers are "peace officers", meaning that they use the law to keep the peace. This means that if you do something "illegal" (and in this litigious society, it is impossible to not break some damn law someplace) but you don't deprive anyone of "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" while doing it, then the officer can do nothing to prosecute you, because it is his job to enforce the law to keep the peace. In escence, unless you deprive someone of their life, liberty, or prevent them from pursuing happiness, there is no grounds for arrest. But, this would put a huge hole in the public coffers which are lined with the spoils of arbitrary and needless enforcement of traffic laws, and other abuses of power as well (such as the un -Patriot Act), all designed to encroach on our civil liberties, our rights, and our freedoms. If you are driving in a way that threatens others, you deserve to be punished, because the road belongs to everyone. However, if you are just one of 500,000 cars and trucks a day that go safely down a certain stretch of road at 75MPH with no danger to anyone, then there is no reason why the Police should be able to arbitrarily single you out for fines and penalties for doing absolutely nothing wrong!!!
there is a centralized searchable database that people can add these sites to.
It a good idea to check it when you are traveling out of state, or out of any area that you are familliar with.
There is a town here in florida called Waldo, located outside of Gainesville toward Jacksonville off of US 301. The speed limit approaching this very small town is 65. About 6-7 miles before getting to this town, there is a big billboard warning you of the speed trap. As you get into the town, the speed limit drops from 65 to 55 to 44 to 35 all within about 500 feet. I don't know if it is as bad now, but before, if you were doing 56 when you hit the 55 mph sign, they would nail you. Same way all the way down. They will get you for driving 1 mile over the speed limit.
This is a very small town, probably under 7-800 people and this is one of their biggest sources of revenue, especially when they get people from out of town or state.
paul . we had a town just like that here in ohio....S.viena....people complained to the state, they dissolved the the town because of the of money they were making off the traps....sometimes the system works...
I know here in MD along US70 between Baltimore and Frederick they are using just about anything to catch speeders. I have seen marked and unmarked Crown Vics, marked and unmarked Explorers, unmarked Expeditions and an unmarked F250. That's just the state troopers. The counties are using the Crown Vics, and I got stopped once by a Buick. Luckily only a warning in that case.

They got me in Waldo in 1983, and I guess they're still at it. Some things NEVER change.
