Terrorism has a great effect on the media's roles and responsibilities when covering terrorist
events from differing and often competing perspectives. Such perspectives drive behavior during
terrorist incidents. Often resulting in both tactical and strategic gains to the terrorist operation
and the overall terrorist cause. The challenge to both the governmental and press communities is
to understand the dynamics of terrorist enterprise and to develop policy options designed to
serve the interests of government, the media, and the society.
Terrorists must have publicity in some form if they are to gain attention, inspire fear and respect,
and secure favorable understanding of their cause, if not their act. The media needs public
understanding, cooperation, restraint, and loyalty in efforts to limit terrorist harm to society and
in efforts to punish or apprehend those responsible for terrorist acts. Journalists and the media in
general pursue the freedom to cover events and issues without restraint, especially governmental
restraint.
Three new trends appear to be emerging which impact on the relationship between the media,
and terrorism. These include anonymous terrorism, more violent terrorist incidents and terrorist
attacks on media personnel and institutions.
A number of options, none without costs and risks, exist for enhancing the effectiveness of
media-oriented responses to terrorism and for preventing the media from furthering terrorist
goals as a byproduct of vigorous and free reporting. These include financing joint
media/government training exercises, establishing a government terrorism information response
center, promoting use of media pools, promoting voluntary press coverage guidelines; and
monitoring terrorism against the media.
The media and the government have common interests in seeing that the media are not
manipulated into promoting the cause of terrorism or its methods. But policymakers do not want
to see terrorism, or anti-terrorism, taking away freedom of the press. One of the pillars of
democratic societies. This appears to be a dilemma that cannot be completely stopped. One
with which societies will continually have to struggle. The challenge for policymakers is to
explore mechanisms enhancing media/government cooperation to accommodate the citizen and
media need for honest coverage while limiting the gains uninhibited coverage may provide
terrorists or their cause. Communication between the government and the media here is an
important element in any strategy to prevent terrorist acts.
Here's my take on education:
Unless you intend on finding out later in life that you need more education after years of quiting school and end up paying for it yourself in MANY ways.It is best to realize you only get one REAL good crack at it when your mind is still in its easiest stage of learning.
This is the time to MAKE THE MOST OF IT and do everything in your power to succeed in getting your high school diploma.
This is YOUR JOB> no one else's.
Once you are gone from the education system for any amount of time ,you will find out it is even harder for you to so.
My opinion > Buckle down and Learn,Learn, learn!
Good Luck!

Don't shoot the mesenger !!!
I am not a grammar expert, and probably fault can be found with what I have attempted to point out. But, as mentioned in post above - STUDY and LEARN. Your command and usage of the English language can get you through doors that might otherwise be closed. No need to talk like an English Professor in casual conversation, but be able to speak - and write - correctly when the occasions and needs arise.
I don't know about the truck deal. That is between you and "dad". Go back to the teacher and propose an additional paper to help offset the "bad" one.
Good luck to you...most of us here have been through it !!!

You took the words right out of my mouth!I'm 39 y.o.a., and decided to go back to school a few years ago. I didn't do my "job" when I was in high school, and decided to quit and get a job in a factory. After 20+ years of working dead end jobs, mostly construction,I decided that I was tired of working in the mud. When you get to college, the teachers don't care if you do your work or not. You don't get as much help or instruction as in high school. You're basically on your own. It was hard getting started, but after two years of going four days a week, I'm maintaining a 4.0 average. I've got two semesters of anatomy and physiology, algebra, chemistry, etc. under my belt after a lot of hard studying.I am now taking psychology, and Expository Writing. I've been doing the same kind of research papers that this young Dude described above. It's tough, but I'm holding on to a 97 average, with just a month to go. If an old timey Dude like me can do it, you can too little Brother. My opinion is to get all of that FREE education that you can. College is not cheap. Also, if my Dad had given me a truck to drive, I would take time to get my papers done.If you need help on your papers, e-mail me sometime and I'll help if I can. You could wait 20 years like I did, but I wouldn't reccommend it.My Dad use to say"Son, your school days are the best times of your life."I wouldn't admit it then, but he was right. Hang in there Dude, and get that education. You'll be glad that you did. Thanks for your time. Darby
As a kindergartener in the Everett School District, I was very active and rambunctious and my teacher was fairly certain I had some form of mental deficiency. She was a cranky old lady that would blame everything on retardisms and would convince the counselors the same. My parents didn't buy any of this and got a second opinion from the folks at the Northshore School District. They figured that I was an above average student, and not the other way around, and was so I was placed in advanced classes. I excelled in these and until I graduated from high school I never saw a trimester without honors or similarly advanced classes. So you see that it is often a matter of opinion, and like I said, once you've got your english locked down, you've got a lot of options.

-----------Frankly, your paper is confusing. Your thoughts and ideas are lumped together in single paragraphs, you have portions of sentences rather then one sentence ending prior to another one beginning etc. This paper needs work. All to often students today think that they can do the bare minimum, turn in late assignments, incomplete assignments and do poorly on papers and expect (Yes, expect) to pass. Well that is wrong. You have to earn that grade my son, not simply be given it.
--------Sorry for spouting off, but as a teacher I get tired of that same media you use in your research paper, putting teachers down for not demanding more from students. Your job at this point is not to have a truck, not to work part-time for extra cash, rather it is to learn. I agree with one other post that unless you are open to learning you will not learn. But by giving you a passing grade / diploma for truly not learning, are we helping you? Bravo to your dad for having the parenting skills to hold you (the student) more accountable. Jim

>are absent! So you get a 0 for what ever you missed while
>your home sick. Over half the class is failing.
Have you considered going to the school administration about this? You will need to be prepared to document your allegations.
And remember: Albert Einstein was once considered stupid and unteachable.
Go talk to your teacher, ask her to give you any tips on what to write about, and ask her if she'll let you do the paper over. I always ask my instructors for tips, and help in writing the paper before actually writing it, and usually give it to a friend to go over and critique. I fix those problems, and then I bring the draft to them and ask them to look over it. I always ask if this is what they want and if they think I should do more.
You simply can't write a large report in one night, it takes awhile. I highly advise against waiting to the last minute too.
If you have any questions, ASK!
You should remember that people can't read your thoughts, they can only read what you write on paper. I've found teachers to be that way too. I've had quite a few classes were the instructor did a poor job explaining exactly what they wanted. Talk about frustrating! After the first few failures on my part, I had enough and decided to get in the teacher's head. A grade is just a label, the job you do is what's important. Not ever teachers ideas/expectations are the same, so you really need to get to know the teacher.
I'm far from a 4.0 student, but looking back on classes I've taken, I forget what grade I got, but not forgotten what I've learned.
I doubt your teacher's out to get you. They get paid whether you fail or not, and most are more than willing to help you do your job. You just have to put the effort in aswell.
