I'm most likely purchasing a F250 6.0 4x4 Lariat Supercab tomorrow, and it is an '03. It has 19500 miles on it, and I'm curious if the common engine problems that I've read about for '03s happens early in their life? Or is it after 20k miles that the engines exhibit problems? I've pulled an Oasis report on the truck, the only time it was in the shop for "repairs" was when it got it's PCM flashed in late '03 sometime, that is all.
I'm hoping that if it was going to be a lemon of an engine, it would have already been having problems, is that a correct assumption? I guess I'm just asking how soon the more troublesome engines normally exhibit their weaknesses?
By the way, I asked on the Superduty forum but I'll ask here as well, is $31,999.00 a good price for a 2003 F250 4x4 Lariat Supercab shortbed with 3.73 and LS rear end? With the 6.0L... In excellent shape.
That is good to hear, I'd like more opinions as well though Feel free to let me know, and also to the one person who has replied so far, do you feel that is a good price? Also take into consideration I live in Alaska and vehicles start about $1800.00 higher than in the lower 48 states.
Rambo: I would advise that you run your vehicle type through Kelly Blue Book, NAPA, & Black Book, via interner, for your area. None will come up with same value but you should be able come by a good average. Keeping in mind that their is no $$$$ value in the "I want" syndrome.

Please just state the facts you are happy with your truck you have no way to prove your statement that there are more happy 03 owners then there are unhappy. and just for the record mine is a 2004 truck anyhow.
And what should I do post that my truck is great when it is constantly in the shop. I am just sharing my expirence and the problems other I know are having and you are doing the same that is what makes this a great site, some times you just have to agree to disagree.
I ran it through nada with the options it has installed and trade in value on it is $31.925.00 which is pretty good. It retails for almost $36,000.00, just a couple hundred under 36k. So I think the $32k they want for it is a good price, especially up here in Alaska. I've been doing a lot of searching online for similar trucks anywhere in the US of A and I can't find any that are equipped the same, same mileage and in the same awesome shape for $32k...

I can get an '04 for the same price here in Washingon. July is supposed to be one of the best months to purchase a new vehicle. If I were you I would do an online search at several dealers and have a new one shipped with 0 miles. To answer your question, it sounds about right for a used truck that year. Problems are sporadic. Most of us have had minimal issues that have been resolved. The motor is too new to really give you an answer on longevity but it will probably be just fine.
I've done a couple searches from dealers I could find online, in a couple different states, I'm coming up with about $42k for a '04 model similarly equipped like the '03 I'm looking at. I'd really like to know where you look to find the '04 for $32k, I've got to make this purchase before lunchtime tomorrow, so reply back quick
Have the dealer pull an OASIS report for the truck you're buying. Get a copy, don't take their word for what's in it. That's a report from Fords central database and will tell you all work that has been performed on the truck by any ford dealership.
My 6.0PSD is a 5/03 build and is currently being bought back. Almost 15k miles on it and it's still coming up with new problems, not that I care at this point. Ford will own it again no later than 7/26.
Bickford Ford in Snohomish, WA had an add in the paper for a Lariat this weekend for a F-250 SC 4x4 Lariat for about that price. When I looked in January I could have bought an F-350 CC 4x4 Lariat with every option they had for around 37,500 after rebates from them but it did not have the manual transmission and manual 4x4 like I wanted. They are out there for about that price and I have seen them often advertised. I could have ordered one if I wanted to wait with the set up I was looking to get for 38,900. As I said before, July is supposed to be one of the best months to buy a new vehicle if you have the patience to find that dealer with stock on hand. Oh yeah the list price and what they can sell it to you for will have a wide margin if you find someone willing to negotiate.
I have an 05/03 build truck, got 29.5k on the clock, no problems. it is a TRUCK...it does not sound, nor ride like a caddy.....
i think the dealer, if they are ASKING 32k, would take 30k.....
use these words "I WILL DRIVE IT HOME TONIGHT!" for 30k plus TTL, or whatever you work out.....try to getem to toss in free oil changes for life, and the factory ESP, do not purchase an aftermarket warranty :ugh:
i would have no qualms about it.... and remember, the '03's have more power than the 04's!
(i have no real proof of this, just read it here from a few people)
The dealers in Dallas area are advertising $ 10,000.00 of list on all Lariet 6.0's. Can probably push and shove some more on site. $8,500.00 off Harley Editions.
Searching now for one for an old friend of mine. Meaning he is old and not up for the game. He would prefer a full blown Excursion but at 75 years old the thought of a vehicle listing for more than twice as much as his first home is just mind boggling.
