P0402 -- 2001 F-150 V6 -- Help!!
The other day I filled up with gas. Drove about .5 a mile, stopped, and then started my truck and the Service Engine Light came on. Advance Auto says its a code P0402 (EGR FLOW EXCESSIVE) and that I should replace the EGR Valve for 60 bucks.
But after reading on here you guys seem to point at the DPFE sensor. A friend of mine said the gas cap was probably bad. And I hate to waste money so if someone could lead me in some kind of direction that would be great.
I took the battery cable off the other day and it cleared it for a little while. He cleared at the store today and I drove it home and its still cleared but Im not betting it will be much longer. Ohh and by the way the truck is running absolutely fine and I always watch the gas mileage and know exactly how far I can go on a tank of gas. And the funny thing is I've got about a 1/4 of a tank when I should be closer to empty. Maybe its just a coincidence.
Thanks Cody...

Thanks I guess I'll end up going that way first. Its been a day and the lights hasnt re-appeared. I tapped on the sensor and the valve yesterday just to see if that would help. The "tapping" technique seems to work quite well in my field. (electrician at a mill)
If it comes back I will have to change it I guess. You just pull real hard and it comes off huh?
Thanks...
Ohh and the gas mileage is the same it equaled out when I got to empty.
