today i tried replacing my fuel filter and was not able to do it. I have a 1991 explorer XLT. ON the new filter i bought both ends are smooth except for a built in ring. so i know the filter doesn't srew in. When i tried pulling the two ends from the filter i came up with no luck. The ends wouldn't slide back at all.
Has anyone had a similar problem? AM i doing it right?
You need the tool to remove the clips which are inside the ends of the fuel lines. I bought mine at a Ford dealer at the end of my street for $19.00. I live 60 miles from the nearest Autozone which others have said also sells the tool for less. It reaches inside the fuel lines to release the locking clips. I also bought new clips from the dealer for about a buck each.
Good luck!
Buy a Haynes or Clitons manuel. It tells you how. Also buy the kit, not just one tool. You need them for other fittings. You fined the kit of 7/8 at anyparts store. Here in Canada for about 17$ not bad for eight instead of one from Ford.
