I just looked under my 04 4wd Excursion, and I am trying to figure out if Ford has tried to fix the axle wrap problem with some form of radius rod from the factory. From a rod is attached to the lower shock mount under the axle, runs forward about 10 inches, then as an "L", and goes up and connects to the frame inside of the leaf spring.
Anyone know what these are. From the forum, I was considering either landyot's solution or the active suspension from Roadmaster...now I am wondering if the 04 does not have this issue.
Thanks for the response. I did not think mine had a sway bar from the factory - did not have the towing option package installed.... I will probably replace with a Hellwig if it is. Is there any way to confirm if this is a sway bar or not?
Thanks! On mine, the bar that I was referencing connects right on the shock mount as shown in the 4th picture down in the link you gave. On each side, a bar goes forward to a link, then straight up to the frame. There is no cross-over. Still think factory sway bar?
No need to take any photos. There's no doubt that the item which you describe is anything but an OEM anti-swaybar. The photos in the link I posted were of an F250 Hellwig bar. The Excursion anti-swaybar connects to the lower rear shock mounts ... just like you described ... and just like my Hellwig anti-swaybar is attached ... except the Hellwig bar's drop-links connect to the outboard sides of the frame rails.
Checked out the F250 sway bar install pics. That is nice unsing the factory axle mounts. Wish I could have used that set up on my Excursion. Dropping the rear shock mounts with Bilstein 5100's attached and getting them realigned was a super PITA!
Monsta - jhaskin doesn't seem to be the most proficient in identifying suspension parts ... and that's not a cut against him ... he's just not familiar with these things. But being as such, I have my doubts that he crawled underneath and studied the suspension arrangement closely. He probably got down on his hands and knees beside the X, and glanced at it from the side. I still believe he was talking about an OEM anti-swaybar. But, hey! I could very well be wrong, too!
Landyot - I did actually lay on my back and look at it.... but definitely was confused. I am going home tonight and hope to be able to take pictures....or confirm that I was confused....
Last time I talked to my wife, it was at the dealer for a check engine light (nice feature on a 6 day old vehilce) so I may not be able to take picture until the weekend....
