I have a 1989 Ranger 4x2 with a 2.9L engine and 5 speed transmission. It's running rough and missing at cruise. I checked and the distributor is loose. I want to set the timing and tighten the distributor before I start checking for other problems. I can't find the Spout Connector! I've traced the harness that runs from the distributor along the passenger side of the engine but I don't find the plug! Every plug coming off that harness is connected to injectors or sensors on the engine, I can't find any extra plugs or see anything that should be connected that's not. Where the heck did they put that damn Spout? Am I overlooking something or just not looking in the corrct place? Help!!!
Not exactly sure on yours, but on my 94 4.0 it's on the wiring harness common to the core support, between the battery and the core support itself (left side of truck).
I finally found it, I was looking in the wrong harness. TigerDan, your pictures lead me right to it. Now all I need to do is set the timing and see if I have any other problems, good thing I bought that scanner. Thanks everyone!
Where can I purchase a new spout connector? The previous owner of my truck must have lost it because they just shoved a staple in there to complete the circuit. I've tried autozone, nappa, and o'riellys but none of them have it. I believe I have the correct part number, E53Z14489C.
SPark OUT its a signal the computer uses for timing. physically its a simple jumper plug between 2 wires.
since its a jumper plug anything that conducts electricity can be used to replace it.
when the plug is disconnected the computer reverts to base timing, that's when you set the timing. put the plug back in and the computer adjusts the timing as needed.
