backfire after changing spark plug wires
I changed my spark plug wires today, replaced with NAPA premium.Disconnected the negative battery cable before I started. Here's the tricky part.I also removed a sensor, thinking it was the Mass Air flow, although now realize it's not. It's the first one on the drivers side, just past the air intake hose clamp, where the rubber and aluminium are joined. It has two phillips head screws and a connector on it.When I removed the two screws, there was what could be described as a slotted screw bit facing me.I replaced the screws and connector.I then reattached the negative battery cable and started the vehicle. It now has a sound like someone hitting the muffler with a piece of metal. When I stand by the exhaust,I can feel the surge of the backfire.
I don't know if this is related to messing with the sensor on the wires.Anyhelp would be appreciated.
Double check that the blade is properly aligned with the sensor slot
when you mounted it. You may have to put sensor in place then rotate it slightly to align bolt holes up when installing.
Most probable cause of backfire is wrong plug wire installation. Engine cylinder & coil pack layout is as follows:
---Engine------------------ Coil Pack
--3.....6---------------------3...4
--2.....5---------------------2...6
--1.....4---------------------1...5
front of engine----------front of coil pack
Dialtone
I was convinced I would be going to the dealer Monday am for the TPS.
Thanks again
