I'm going to be getting a van, because my better half is getting a power wheelchair (it won't exactly fit in the Cherokee).
Is there anything that I should look for, or lookout for?(problem areas)
I've looked at a 88 and a 91, I'm kind of leaning towards the 88 because it has a 351, but it has 152k on the odometer. The 91 has 82K, but it won't stay running (revs up and dies), and I'm not to fond of its pink interior.
Low mileage dont mean a thing 3 years ago i bought a 91 E150 with 46k showing.... it turns out i have had a bunch of work done because it sat too much.....
there are many good vans with lifts already in them. Ricon lifts ( www.riconcorp.com ) in my opinion are the best ... i am getting new Ricon to replace a wore out Braun.
Well, I've found out some history on the van. It was owned by a middle school teacher.
He is an older gentleman (his dad dated my boss's grandma, my boss is in his mid 50's), and I was told that he took pretty good care of it.
Still looking at a couple of others.
I've looked at the Ricon lifts too, but I may just make my own hidden ramp system.
I'll figure that part out after I get one.
Well, I had time today to take it for a spin.
Smoked a little on start up (it hasn't been licensed since 11-03), and smoked quite a bit when I went down the street. I ran it around for awhile (had to air out the van because it filled up with smoke), then it quit smoking. Didn't smoke anymore after that. I'm figuring the seals need to be replaced. I ran it pretty hard while I had it out, and it performed very well, and handled good too. Idles a little rough, but I think that a tune up will take care of that. It will also need valve cover gaskets.
