4x4 lights blinking????????
A friend of mine is having problems with the 4x4 dashlights on his (1997 4x4 Explorer).They just started flashing,while driving down the interstate,on his way to work. I`ve checked some old postings,most of them cover-when switching over too 4x4. This is a problem with the lights only!

Probably one of the driveshaft speed sensors in the transfer case. When the computer thinks the rear driveshaft is turning faster than the front, it will start diverting the torque to the front driveshaft. If after diverting as much as it is able, it still thinks the rear is turning faster than the front it will disable the Control Trac and start flashing the High/Low lights. If it happened while driving down the highway when in Auto, the most likely source is one of the two speed sensors. The lights will flash a 2-digit code. Someone with the proper manuals could tell you what the code means.
