Friend has a 1998 xlt ranger and the radio display (like the light and what not) is not working. Radio works fine but display took a ****. Any help is appreciated.
A common problem on the older Ford radios was the "back-light" bulb would go out, causing the display not to work. On the newer radios, there is a DC to DC power supply for the display that goes out. This power supply is on the PCB that the display is mounted on, and usually, the problem is bad solder joints.
I had the same problem in my 98. It's still common. I had mine repaired under my extended warranty. Some people just buy an aftermarket radio. However, someone HAS posted the fix here before, looks like someone who can solder can fix it on their own, I was just too lazy to do it myself I used to have a link to the fix but I can't find it. Try doing a search, and just the sticky posts at the top of the forum, may be some info there... Good luck to your friend
You would think after all this time Ford would fix this. The display on my 88' works like crap. Only part of the numbers work. Works good for radio-station-roulette (sp?).
