Well I found the source of the oil spots in the driveway from my 96 150, oil pan gasket is shot. I also noticed that the oil pan is plastic. I'm thinking if I'm going to spend the time replacing the pan gasket, I might as well replace the pan and put a metal pan in. Does anyone know what years the metal pans were offered in?
The oil pan on my '95 is shot also. If I tap on the pan it kind of sounds like plastic (not what metal should sound like) but its metal. You might want to check it again.
Replaced the oil pan on my 1995 F150 with 300, M5OD. Also same thing on my dads 1992 F150 with 300, M5OD. We replaced the oil pans with the engine in the truck. New oil pan and gasket, about $80. Cost for a shop around $400. Took a day to complete. Had to unbolt engine and transmisson mounts. Jack both transmission and engine up as high as it will go to get pan out.
Nope, it's definately gray plastic and not metal. I took a look at it again this morning. I'm debating of whether or not to replace the pan with a metal one when I replace the gasket. I'm planning on doing a 351 swap on it eventually and don't want to be throwing money at the 6 if I don't have to.
Hey 96straight6, see if a magnet will stick to your oil pan. You said you looked at it again today and it gray plastic. Well when I replaced mine it was painted gray, the whole engine is. But im 99% sure yours is steel, if you have a plastic oil pan it sure is something I have NEVER seen. Fred
huh it's not plastic ,,,believe me I know ,,,they look and sound like plastic if you tap them ON the motor in the vehicle...And that GREY part gave it away.........it's metal....
If it is plastic by some far out chance take pics of it before and after you break it cus I know your not going to put it back on if it IS plastic,,lol
