I am so happy with my Ranger, I had to tow my fathers truck home today. His truck is a 2000 F350 Crew Cab Dually conversion truck with a Diesel, I had to tow him because his A/C Comp froze up on him. If anyof you live in or around houston or sugarland then you know were the Tweeter is on 59, I towed it from there all the way to West Columbia were he lives, and my truck made it!!!!! YEEHAAA!!! You gotta love these little trucks. Oh yea and remember all I have is a 3.0 pushing through 3.73 gears and 33" tires(not exactly the most powerful combo).
Most people have NOOOOOO idea what the Ranger can do! I've done things with my 2.3 Ranger that guys with 1/2 tons wouldn't try!

Way back when I had my 1991 Ranger (2.3L 5sp), I would haul a full ton of sand around town on occasion. Was very shocked and pleased to see my truck pulling through, even with the A/C going too.
Too bad they never made a Ranger (small compact truck, that is) with the infamous 4.9 inline six.
I used to own a 1974 Ranger with a 240 in line six. It was an F-100. It was a small truck in its day as the F-150 was also available. It had a 6 ft bed and a 3 speed manunal transmission. It orriginally shifted on the column but was converted with a Hurst shifter on the floor. It had manunal steering, no A/C and got 23.7 MPG if I kept it under 55. It was a tough truck, looked and ran great. In the end, it rusted out so bad that I had to give up on it. Rust seemed to be a common problem with trucks of that vintage, especially in Northern Maine where salt is used on the roads in the winter. Anyway, Ford did make a Ranger with an in-line six........ 30 years ago.
I tow /w my Ranger all the time and I have no problem in town or the freeway. My Ranger is a small 2x4 reg. cab 4.0L 14" tires. I use it for a work truck nothing to fancy. The trailer w/ cargo wights I say about 3 tons and other 1/2 ton in the bed. The power from the Ranger I don't have to think about it's there when I need it even in the toughest situations.
One day w/o a load I was going up a every steep long grade on the freeway, just crusing up 65 mph with barely touching the gas when I looked in my side mirror there was a Toyota truck trying to beat me up the hill and I didn't even now we was racing. I get into a situation all the time crusing up the hills so now I have to take it easy going up hills and let off the gas because there is just about always someone that wants to race to the top and I don't want to race, My wild young days are over I'm getting old and boring.
I like racing toyotas up hills! A friend of mine had a 96 or so Tacoma 4x4 ext cab with a new 3.4L engine in it, new clutch, etc. We went on a camping trip, him and his girlfriend in his truck with some camping gear in back, not even loaded above the side rails, and his plastic toolbox took most of the room. My and my fiance in my truck, with a canopy, loaded to to the roof in the supercab and the canopy, pulling a 14' boat with a bunch of stuff in it too (we pack heavily, and we carried all the food). They tried to race us up every hill, and we beat them reguardless of who started out in front. We launched the boat from a muddy slope, no boat ramps. He says, 'We'll pull you out with the Toyota when you're Ford gets stuck,' I just laughed at him.
The most I've pulled is a fully loaded 6x12 cargo trailer, and loaded my truck. Total GCW was 8800lbs. Pulled all through the mountains and never dropped below 55 coming up the hills. Could've easily put it in 3rd and gone faster if I wanted. Been very happy with the power of the 4.0L
I work in a ship yard thats over 60years old so im clearing some brush and came apon this cable probly 3/4 diamter and over 100ft long all colied up with a bush groing over it. it was all tangled up really good. boos came up to me said "when i get back you can use my truck(03 F250 7.3L 4X4) to pull that out. Well i got tired of wating so i hooked up to the tow bar mounts( my truck was towed behind a motor home before i got her) with a chain and tow strap. nailed it in reverse. on the third pull every thing came out. man i love these little trucks

Where was this at, the long grade going up to Paradise? And you only get old and boring if you let it happen. Give the young punks a run for the money once in while, gets the juices flowing! Show 'em what a Ford can do! -TD
