So I have this Crew Cab. It bogs down after the engine gets to 155 degrees on the dial. Let it cool just a moment and it will get going again. But, not over 55MPH. The engine is a full rebuilt swap and the only thing not changed over is the alternator and steering pump. Anywho, I believe the problem is the rubber fuel line heating up and the coil is getting to hot. The wife drives it daily stop and go, but if I drive it, it is highway, so I catch the problem. I will keep you all posted on my progress....
I am dissapointed with these junkyards, here. They are filled with overgrown foilage and the stock of older vehicles is lacking. I am looking for the small tool boxes that were stock under the bed and the doors on the passenger side. By thw way I am also looking for E-brake cables and an upgrade for the power assist.

Out here we have plenty of parts for these year trucks, but the only problem is the (politically correct term) salvage yards charge an arm and leg. They must think these old parts are new or something...ouch!
Good luck finding what you are looking for. The tool box and door is/was a great option. Hope you find one...
All,
I'd guess fuel problem first.
No mention of backfire or stall.
Replace the filter. If that doesn't work replace/rebuild the carb.
If that doesn't work, replace the fuel pump. Note: Generally when the mechanical fuel pump fails, the oil will smell of gasoline. This is due to a ruptired diaprham.
Good luck,
KingFisher
I have a new fuel pump, new carb, new coil. The engine temp gauge is reading 160 until I pull it over. But, I can go over 55 hen it is cool. I have thse weak fuel lines that are probably, too weak. They are soft and I figure that may be part of the problem. Need some high pressure line and high temp protection. I will get that from Summit. I am going to relocate the coil. I might even wrap it in thermal protection.
No, not yet. But with a new carb is that even going to be happening. It runs fine through the streets and idles fine, even when warm. But I have some solutions. I read that there is not to be more than 12 inches of rubber tubing for the fuel line. I have more that 12 inches. I think high pressure line or some length of steel line with heat sheathing will help. Plus I believe relocating the coil will help. Keep you posted.
I have a 19" 7-blade clutch fan and a 21.5" fan shroud. The fan is only .5" in the shroud. I was thinking that I should go for a bigger flex-fan and deeper in the shroud. It seems that I may get better cool air flow over the engine and maybe better cooling in the engine bay. I was also thinking of a trans cooler. I think I read somewhere that your transmission might cause the truck to act this way.
