Jag IFS

Well I finished installing My Jag front end and man my trucks is going to be awesome. Now i have IFS, power rack and pinion steering, 11 inch discs with 4 piston calipers and it lowered the front of my truck quite a bit. It was a lot of work but seeing the trucks new stance when it was back on four wheels made it all worth it. If your interested in the Jag unit or want to see what I did check out my gallery.

Paul,

Your workmanship looks pretty good. The finished product is very tidy. The arms aren't the sexy XKE versions, but they're certainly no worse than the Volare units. My only concern is the amount of space you have for the rear sump oil pan to drop into. Is the old rear cross memeber going to have to come out to fit the engine? What's the bolt pattern on the hubs?

Very nice job though.

Nice install Paul. It looks strong and not overly complicated at all. I suspect a smallblock can be installed high enough to put the pan above the whole Jag assembly if necessary. The trans crossmember is almost certainly going to have to leave. Let us know how it works out.

Thanks

I think the rear transmission is probably going to have to go too. The oil pan is definately going to be a tight fit but I think I'll try and get the engine as far back as posible, maybe even cut modify the fire wall a little and if I still can't get the oil pan to fit I can always make my own. Now I'm glad I decided to move my whole suspension 1 inch forward because it cetered the tires in the fenders better than stock and it might give me the clerance I need. Also I bought a 429 C-6 combo out of a 69 T-Bird today so after I get it all mocked up I'll post pics and let you guys know what I had to do to get it to fit. One more thing, I think the bolt pattern is 5 on 4 & 3/4, which I think is a Chevy pattern not sure though but since I'm using the rearend out of the same car I used for my frontend all my rims will be the same pattern.

Later,

Paul

I just went thru all three oil pans for 429/460 in my F100 with the volare front end... stock is front sump, no good, rear (4x4) hit the rod between the steering idler arms. Ended up with a mid sump from a mid 70's E350 van.

I'll have about 1/2 inch clearance on the passenger side rear of the pan when the wheels are cranked hard left.

Like what you did (we're doing the same sort of work), and left you a long reply on your gallery. Didn't realize it wouldn't show up on this thread.

Sam,

That sucks about your oil pan but at least you found one that works. I think for my pan I'm going to end up having to make my own because in front of my crossmember I have the sway bar and in back of it I have the power rack.

av8ford,

I'd definatly be interested in seeing pictures of your friends jag setups and I think I did use the metalistic mounts that came off the car. Also I am going to use the Jag IRS too so I think I'm going to end up with a truck that rides and handles great like a series 3 Jag except my truck will have alot more power than a Jag.

Yeh, that sway bar will be a real trouble make for the oil pan.

I just put a High Volume oil pump on my 460 today, and the arm from the block to the pump body is longer than the normal volume pump by about an inch. Thought I was gonna have trouble with the pan too.. lucked out, 1/2 in to spare!!
