Tranny Service
I went to super lube for a price on servicing the Transmission. They charge $89.99 for a complete fluid change. The service tech. advised not to drop the pan if it wasn't leaking. I thought the point was to replace fluid and filter. Is it normal not to change the filter? Is there a problem once the pan is dropped with leakage? Also I want to use a synthetic(MOBIL1)oil because I'm pulling a boat. Does anyone know if the mobil 1 is compatable with Mercon? Thanks! Michelle
Some of the newer explorers have part of the exhaust system blocking the pan, The ford dealership near me told me that under this circumstance they only pump out the fluid and don't drop the pan. I think these explorers have a metal screen instead of a filter so there is less chance of clogging it up.
If you have a 95 then you have a filter and nothing blocking the pan. so it should definetly be pulled so the inside of the pan can be inspected for metal debris and the filter can be changed. and also have the pump-out service.
don't forget to get the tranny cooler installed (in-line with the original cooler) otherwise you will be paying 2-3 thousand for a new transmission
good luck
synthetic is not a bad idea. but if you have the fluid pumped out every 20,000 miles you probably don't need it
