Engine Flushing.
Well I run a drop in replacement K&N on my explorer, and my silicon reading after 3000 miles on the oil came back at 11. Below average according to blackstone. So I cant see where the K&N is hurting me at all.
I think some of it is that these obsessive compulsive people pull 'em off and clean 'em every 5000 miles when they change the oil. When they clean it so often, they probably damage the filter more than just leaving it well enough alone. This may cause some of the problems we hear about. It says right on the box not to clean it for 50,000 miles, since the accumulated dirt helps filtering. Mine has been on for 30,000 miles, and no loss of mileage or performance yet. Still works like the day I dropped it in.

Going that many miles before recommending cleaning should be an indication of how POOR a K&N filters!!!!
My appologies to forddytube. His "lawsuit" comment was meant to be humorous.
Thread reopened. Let's try and focus on the engine flush topic and not the K&N filter. As tempting as it may be!

No cleaning for 50k BS. I drive in dusty conditions sometimes and my K&N cone in the FIPK needs cleaning almost every 7k. If they had a paper element for that thign i would get it cause i dnot think the filter would have much to do with the performance.......the cold air itself should be the best
