hi, just curious, my van has recently started pinging on higher rpm acceleration. it's a 4.0l with no distributor, I didn't think it was possible. I have tried three different fuel brands all of which have worked before. only difference is I have just changed the plugs and it seems to have started then. also my temp gauge moves fromn o-to-m on the "normal" scale constantly. I have new rad and new thermostat and its full ,tried running full hot to circulate but no difference. sending unit?
thanx

Just a suggestion make sure the plugs are the same as your old ones there are different numbers for different temperatures or applications.Just a shot in the dark.
Seeing that you mentioned the pinging was only after changing the plugs,I would also make sure the wires are properly seated.
As mojo hobo mentioned, proper heat range for the plug is essential for correct engine operation. Also, the plug wires deteriorate internally over time, causing a ping and rattle. Plug wires are good for around 60-80K. Again, use a premium brand such as Motorcraft or Bosch. Avoid the cheaper sets or you will be replacing them again in as little as 30,000 miles. Moving and tugging on the plug wires during your recent plug replacements may have damaged one or more of the plug wires.
clean the m.a.f sensor as well with an electronics cleaner . also , were the plugs gapped to specs? also doing an injector flush is a good thing as well. just some things i've run into in the past.
