6.0 tuner

I looked around the whole site, especially in the 6.0 Diesel forum and couldn't find the answer I was looking for, hope someone can help.

I know that the dealers occasionally reflash the PCM's on the 6.0L Diesel engines. I've heard many complaints about after a flash, having less power and worse mileage.

So my question is, if I get a Diablo tuner for my 6.0L, will it run with the same power on a (just for example) June 2003 flash as it would with someone who has the very latest flash? Does it basically write over whatever the Ford flash did to "slow" the engine down some? Or does the version you start with effect performance even after the tuner is installed?

Thanks in advance for your speedy reply,

So basically whatever flash you have doesn't matter as long as you are running the Diablo tuner, but it will matter whenever you need to revert back to normal settings. That is good to know, I was a little confused there I guess. I didn't want to go get my truck flashed with the latest which I hear makes your truck less powerful and worse mileage, and have that continue on into my Diablo settings.

I wasn't planning on purposefully getting the new flash, but sometimes the dealer will flash your PCM just to be "kind" without asking you, when you bring it in for other maintenance.

No, it does not write over whatever Ford did. Instead, it takes the stock PCM code and reads it into itself, modifies it and writes it back out. It will not enable features that aren't enabled, etc. Power output varies slightly based on PCM code but at the very least you'll get the advertised gains.

OK, thanks, that is what I figured. So, is there any recommended flash that works the best with the tuner? Which version should I try to get on my truck before I use the tuner?
