Looking at a Used 2001 SCrew
A local Dodge dealer has a hell of a deal on a used 2001 Super Crew 4x4 for sale with a 5.4 in it. It has 78k miles on it. What can I expect out of the engine for continued mileage? What else should I be looking at for wear and tear because of 4x4?
I currently own a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis with 100k miles on it. It has the 4.6 cousin of the 5.4 and has been a good runner. With proper maintainence, I should get another 100k out of this car. I'm hoping the bigger 5.4 can be similar as I don't want to be paying off the truck and having to fix it. If I was going to be fixing, might as well have kept the old truck.
So can you guys through some info at a lurker? Thanks in advance.
If it has been well maintained it should be good for as long as the 4.6 in your car.
I would check for oil leaks from the head gaskets and also try to hear it when it's cold, first start of the day, to listen for piston slap.
Check the front end, ball joints etc.
Any idea if the transmission has been serviced? Any records with the truck?
What does the piston slap sound like? Anything like a noisy diesel?
