Has anyone watched this show. its about the daily routine at southwest terminals. (bad publicity for them imho) anyway i was watching this past weekend and they overbooked a flight by like 50 people and some of the people that couldn't get on had reservations for a cruise in FL. that they would lose the money if they didn't show up. The airline was just like all we can do is give your money back. how can these airlines do that especially when some people buy tickets months in advance. it seems to me that they overbook so they can use the money then just return it when not everybody can fit and the airline reaps the benifits of a interest free loan. shouldn't there be some law against this.
Thats why you show up to the airport early. In my 10+ years of travel I have encountered a few overbooked airplanes, but I am always about 30 min to an hour early and I always get my seat.
I have worked retail for the last 20 years so I can't watch that show too much, its like dealing with my worst customers. FWIW I flew to California and back last November and flew Continental both ways. Great experience and got a window seat on 3 of the 4 planes I flew. The Boeing 767 is an awesome airplane and I really liked the GPS display that showed where we were in real time.
yeah all airlines overbook or try to every flight because the theory is that not all the passengers are going to show up and most of the time thats true, but also depending on the season. the airlines have to do that to make almost any profit...and heres a little tip...if you dont use those deal websites for flying and such its much cheaper to buy a round trip ticket for long distance travel even if you are only going one way.

i have heard that also, but i've also heard that some airlines will come after you for not using the return flight. i'm not sure if that's true or not.

Really? They shouldn't...they got your money even though u didn't take the seat...and they'll probably fill your seat w/ someone else's money..so they get to double dip.
If you get kicked off a SouthWest flight...you tried too hard. Southwest is first come first serve seating. They do not pre-assign your seating assignment at time of your purchase. The first person there gets a seat and so on...basicaly. If your late, it happens sometimes. For customer service, and time schedules......they cant be beat. If you want to fly cheaper.....you'll be flying 30 and 40 year old hand-me-down planes on AirTrans or ATA. I've flown them both...not again.
SW uses only 737's. Their pilots and mechanics know one plane, and they know it well. No mixed fleet stuff to keep up with.
The draw back I hear most about SW is the sometimes frequent stops. You can go coast to coast sometimes and have 4 or more stops. Other times you might make just one stop.
I've flown more plush and more extravagant airlines to fly. So far, I'm happy with SW.
I've seen the show a couple of times and find it pretty entertaining. I think most of the things that seem bad for SW are the passengers fault. Like when the two law students traveling to Austin didnt know that their free ticket expired before their trip back... Typical of a UT student i guess...
I prefer flying SW done it many a time now. when my connection was delayed one night, they put me up in a nice hotel, gave me a free rental car and what not, pretty nice, they arranaged everythign, paid for a meal for me. was nice
Considering I am in the "home" of America West, I would fly SWA any day before AWA. They all have good and bad points. The funny thing is I just booked tickets for the family (4) to John Wayne (SNA) in Orange CA for $290 for four on SWA. On AWA it would of cost $484 and that is not right. Like others have stated make sure that you are their early and you will have no problems. I like to be there 1 1/2 hours before and you have no problems.
The show great and it shows what they have to deal with. I was watching a show about the guy who preposed this to all airlines and Southwest was the ONLY one that got back to them and not all othe other airlines what them to start shooting their operations.
P.S. all people that fly from LAX to Phoenix are not drunk. I have just noticed that!
