Getting ready to do a rebuild on my e40d out of my 93 EB bronco. Anything special to look for? Ive done a few Aod's but never this trans.
Also would a bad torque converter cause a shudder? , when i am cruising at 40-60 and accelerate, I get a shudder until i let off the gas. I thought it was the rear but the trans shop said it was the T.C.
Yup TC shudder is classic at 40-60mph light acceleration. the clutches slip. The pre 95 E4ODs had problems with this. If it is let go for too long it will eat the rest of the tranny.
Since you are rebuilding anyway, be sure to use the uprated components. This includes uprated TC, pump, clutch pack and probably valve body and solenoids. You probably will also need a new sun shell. A mild shift kit may be worthwhile while you are at it.
and don't forget the center support bearing upgrade. may already have it if it is '93. center support will have an actual needle bearing instead of a bushing.
