Trans line lock?
I have heard about auto trans line locks. I know it does something with the hydraulic pressure, but I'm not sure what exactly it does, how it does it, why it may or may not be a good idea or what it is used for, or where in the transmission it goes. I have heard of drag racers using these. Anybody know about it?

What you're talking about is called a trans brake. It engages both first and reverse simultaneously and locks the tranny up. You bring the revs up to the torque converter's stall RPM, touch the release and the trans responds instantly. It's very fast, very repeatable and beats the u-joints and ring and pinion to death. I'd never consider one on a car that wasn't strip only.
