So just support where your friend works (and the 3rd largest employer in Spokane is URM, which owns my work) and shop at yokes, Rosauers, or Super One on 29th, such high quality produce I love yokes, and Ang and I will sometimes drive to the south hill to hit Super one, but Im not a big Rosauers fan.
as far as Self checkout goes....mixed emotions, I HATE PEOPLE I DONT KNOW, so in that sense Id rather give ya the finger than talk to ya and they are good because they dont talk (unless you count that mildly annoying computerized voice).....but on the other hand, they have all the things you mentioned going against them, and then some, they are slow, and almost unusable, and if your paying cash, better make sure you have nice crisp bills.....god forbid anyone would use cash any more........
Well like I said, it's not that I don't know how to use them. Home Depot I can get in and out without a hitch, and probably in a little less time than if I went to a checker. Freddies just plain sucks no matter what I do . . . it won't work right. But I'd much rather deal with a person any day. Besides that, in my opinion, part of the prices you pay at stores are profits so they can employ people to service you. If I have to service myself I want some of that money back. Like if I have to ring myself up why not give me 10% off my sale? The way I look at it now I'm basically an unpaid employee of that store . . . getting paid nothing to do the job that the rest of these people get $8 an hour for. It's a crock . . . I hate seeing things sliding downhill and not being able to do anything about it. Customer service is disappearing in favor of the almighty dollar.
1. Wal Mart, or any other store that has 21 checkout lines, and has 4 of them open at any given time.
2. Self checkout machines. ( The man that invented these travesties should be put in front of a firing squad armed with BB guns and shot til he's dead!)
3. Some impatient ******* behind me that bitches and whines while I am writing out my check. Dude, if you're in that big of a hurry, go to another line and shut the hell up!!
Oh yeah, I guess it's four things...
4. Cashiers who want to tell you their life's story while trying to check you out. If I dont know you, I sure dont need to hear what a crappy day you've had!

I use them self check out machines and have had mixed results. However, if the machine fails me, I like to put a little chaos into the life of the person watching them. I promptly pick up my stuff and move over to another one and leave that last machine "hanging". I don't give the ailing machine a second chance; the employee can look at the sick machine and fix it, and hopefully in a manner that will ensure that the next person doesn't have the problem(s) I did. If all else fails on the self checkout, I simply pack it up and move over to a line that is staffed by a real human being, one with two eyes, two hands, a pulse, and hopefully enough skill to progress the transaction in a timely fashion. BTW, Icicle, I almost always use cash and I wished they would have lines just for it. After all, I've already spent time getting cash so I'd rather not have to stand in line watching other people use the store as their bank, putting around with debit cards etc that slow things down. Better yet, how about a cash discount for my improving customer satisfaction .

Thats great Bill, Ill have to remember the pick the whole shebang up and go to another line trick....
Everything is disappearing in favor of the almighty dollar.....it sucks.
No fireworks, it costs the fire dept TOO MUCH MONEY
no more checkout clerks, they cost TOO MUCH MONEY
I could go on forever, and many of them would be debateable that thats the only reason.....but the point is, thats a driving reason in many decisions anymore.....I dont want that darn car of hers...its TOO MUCH MONEY
I use the self checkout lanes at the Wal-mart so I don't have to deal with the retard waterhead cashiers.
You mean the ones at your friendly neighborhood Wally World actually work? I've got two supercenters within 35 miles of me, and theirs are almost always screwed up. I've never used them and dont plan to, but it is good for a laugh watching other unsuspecting people try them over and over again.
Bonus points if you choke the next machine while the employee is unable to correct the last one you were on . I had fun at Home Depot last spring. My first visit to those machines was not fun; it would NOT scan the barcodes on sprinkler parts that I needed. I think I got three machines there choked withing about 90 seconds . I haven't given those machines a chance to reoffend.

I've only had it lock up once, just like Ivan in the first post, trying to buy alcohol.

Hey, I'm the impatient ******* behind you that whines! I only got two words for you! DEBIT CARD!
Just kidding. One thing I do agree with is the express lanes. Why have an express lane that accepts checks? Does this make any sense at all?
You Know what REALLY bakes my cookies?......................A Jerk in the express line, self check or not, who cannot count. Line for 15 or 18 items and they are there with 30 or more. The sign says cash and debit only........................they pull out a check book. On the self check they have kids or spouse leaning on the machine where the bags are and wonder why it keeps saying........remove the product fromthe bag and scan it........duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, get a CLUE!!!!!! I had one senior citizen in front of me that was trying to scan a product and did not realize you had to have the UPC exposed to do so. They thought the scanner just "knew" what you wanted.
Self check here works well at the Fry's and the attendent is always helpful and friendly. Seems like that may be the exception.
Pet peeve for me too...
to sit in line behind three people and the women (sorry ladies, but it typically IS!) in front waits until everyone in front of her is checked out...
her groceries are finally rung up and
THEN she starts fishing in her GROCERY bag of a purse to find her check,
then another 5 mins looking for a pen, THEN starts to fill it out !!!
Hey lady, you don't know your name and all until the groceries are rung up !?!?!
Start filling out the check B4 you get there if it's such a challenge !
