Need Help with engine noise
I have a feeling i already know what it is but ill hope for the best and expect the worse. I just bought a 1998 ford explorer XLT (5.0) 102K. It ran and drove fine when i test drove it. When i took it home i changed the oil. After that it has the aweful valve noise (i think its a valve noise at least). It sounds like a Diesel engine. I have a feeling that there starved of oil. AKA a bad oil pump. I have already tried all the sludge removers but nothing seems to help. It only does this once the engine has warmed up. Any help would be greatly appresiated.

Welcome to FTE. I had a similar problem, but mine was a bad rod. When I test drove it I didn't know it was full of really heavy oil to keep it quiet. As soon as I changed the oil the noise started. The noise got worse as it warmed up. Try taking off a valve cover to see if it is pumping when cold, and watch it as it gets warm. What weight oil are you using? What is the oil gauge showing? Try taking a long thin metal rod and touch the engine in different places and hold your ear next to it. You might be able to pinpoint the noise. Good luck
