I have a 1929 Model A pickup. The title says it is a 23' and I have to prove otherwise. I cannot verify the actual VIN #. The numbers that I do have are: 1. Engine Block- X1B19099 2. Top of frame rail next to steering box- A19 3. Next to water inlet- D85 4. Chrome bracket located under steering column (in cab)- A35?9027 These are the only numbers I have found. My father always said it was a 29'. Does anyone know if any of these numbers are the actual VIN or if they can verify the year?
I am certainly not an expert but I have a '30 Closed Cab Pickup that I did a body off frame-up restoration. I was very fortunate with my truck as the frame rail number and the motor number match (considering the truck spent many years working outside for a junk yard.) The frame number will be the tattletale about the time your truck's original motor was made although there was often a lag between motor assembly and vehicle assembly. Engines had to be shipped completed to some assembly plants. The frame number is on top of the frame rail directly below the cowl on the driver's side if it is still readable. Unfortunately, this means that the body has to be lifted to verify it. It is also not unusual to have a different motor in the vehicle than what it left the factory with. The numbers you provided do not tell me anything about the vehicle other than it does not match any chart numbers I have, but again there are lots more people who know much more than me. Hope this helps somewhat.
Thanks for the reply.
I didn't realize that I would have to lift the body to read the Vin.
I might have to, to prove the year and make sure the Vin on the title is correct, unless I can find another way.
Thanks again.
