67-72 top loader
Has hany one used a top loader from a car in a 67-72 truck before? If so which one is best for the job? I was also wondering where i can get one that will handle around 500hp.

If you pick up a true top loader trans you would want to find a big in big out shaft trans. I think the input is like 1.375 and the output shaft is 31 spline. The mustang version of this will run you over a $1000 but it has the shorter tail shaft. The full size fords will have the same trans from a big block car but have longer tail shafts which could makes things a little tough when hooking up a shifter which may be an issue with the shorter tial shaft anyways. I would try to measure were your shifter is going to be located from the back of the motor and then you can buy top loader with a tail shaft that will more closely fit what you are trying to do. Not all short tail shafts have the same shifter location either and I am sure this is true for the longer tail shafts.
If your running a small block then the smaller input and output shaft top loader may be fine for you. Known as a small block tranny and the larger splined top loader is of course the big block trans.
