Wet Sanding.
Depends on the primer. Regular lacquer primer is porous and you do not want to wetsand on it. Your epoxy, & 2K primers will stand up to some moisture.
The general rule is, you can dry sand down to 400 grit. Any finer than that and the paper gets loaded up. Wetsanding eliminates that problem. By the way, for a solid color, you don't have to go any finer with a solid paint. If you are applying a metallic, then you need to go to 600 grit.
Allow your sandpaper to soak for a few minutes (until the paper softens up) in a bucket of plain water (I add a squirt of dishwashing soap if I'm sanding the finish coat). Now just sand away. Dip your paper in the bucket once in awhile. I sometimes also carry a squirt bottle of water, to wet up the surface. As long as the paper isn't snagging and catching on the surface, you are doing things right.
