i'm posting this because i'm just curious..not really a big concern right now,but i will need to know in a little while,so figured i'd go ahead and ask...it's probably a stupid question, but i need to know the answer... ok..i have pretty bad exhaust fumes from my truck...is there really any way to cure it?..it's not oil..but just exhaust fumes..the truck doesn't have cats or anything on it..should i get some?..would they help?..or is it just a lost cause?..thanks
All of these old trucks that didn't come with a catalytic convertor have strong exhaust fumes when compared to todays cars. Just make sure there aren't any exhaust leaks.
On the other hand if the exhaust looks black or sooty then it is running too rich and the carburetor needs some attention.
Do you mean the fumes are in the cab? Do you smell it while you are driving? (you shouldn't) If so, this is serious and the exhaust leaks should be fixed.
i need to check for exhaust leaks...haven't did that yet..but i like the exhaust coming out in front of the tires..and i think i can handle the fumes if i have to,to have them come out there..lol..i drove the truck about 2 hours to get it home, and i didn't pass out or anything..got sleepy..but i think that was just because...i don't think that had anything to do with the exhaust fumes..
i was joking earlier, but seriously, be careful
my g/f's brother drives 1 1/2 hr home from college each weekend. he had an exhaust leak on his riceburner. there were several instances where he almost passed out behind the wheel.
he didn't know what the problem was for a while, but just that he was very tired when he came home each weekend. they found the problem on a routine checkup
who knows it could have saved his live or someone else's
seriously consider checking it out...good luck --Matt
yes..i smell it in the cab..but the exhaust comes out in front of the rear tires...so that may be why i'm smelling it in the cab...?..
My '73 used to exit in front of the rear tires, I would smell the fumes if I was stopped with windows down - but NEVER while driving. You have a leak that needs taken care of. Biggreen78 is right, exhaust fumes have carbonmonoxide which is deadly to you and the people you may run into.
Exhaust leaks are sometimes hard to track down. They all sound different: puffs of air, ticking, rumbling, ect. Might want to stop by a muffler shop for a free estimate - they will find the leak and tell you what it will cost to repair.
well, the truck really needs a new exhaust..so i'd probably be better off to just get a whole new exhaust system on it...that'd take care of it...soo..what should i get?..i want it to sound good...right now she's a little quiet..my 302 in my cougar has more of a rumble than my 351m in my truck..i want the truck to sound better than the cougar...so what should i get? (the cougar has Flowtech exhaust)....think i would still be okay running it out in front of the rear tires?..because i love the looks of it running out there
