Ok..you'll have to excuse my ignorance..as i am new to the old f-series trucks and such....i have 8 lugs up front,and 8 in the rear..could i possibly have two dana 60's?...i think there was a Snow Fighter edition or something that they made that had two 60's...is there any easy way for me to find out if i have a 44 or a 60 in the front?..thanks.
couldn't find a tag on it...hmm..?.wonder what i should do now?..i'm sure the tag is there and i'm missin it..but i looked for a good while..about 20 minutes..lol..but some of that was spent scrapin mud off of it with a screwdriver..
As you're looking at the axle from the diff cover side, look on the lower right hand corner of the center section casting, just outside of the diff cover. On that web should be cast in the model number, either '60' or '44'. You can also compare the size of the diff covers. The rear one you can assume is a model 60. If the front one is a 44, the cover size will be smaller. Also, most model 44 front axles use ball joints, most model 60 front axles '91 and older use kingpins instead of balljoints.
