Just got my F250 and love it. The only problem is that the console display of "mileage to empty " keeps reading "0". I have over 500 miles on the truck and have filled the tank. When does this start working or do I have a problem "Houston".
I don't have the display, but my previous vehicle did. I had to tell the computer when I filled up. It didn't know automatically. There was a button to hold down for a couple seconds to reset it.
dont use that feature,.. it is terrible. I can have about a quarter tank left and it will say 190 miles to empty, then a block or so later it will go down to 90. what a quick hundred miles.
I have had the display on my last two super duties and it should show the distance to empty if there is fuel in the tank (I know, I know, not very reliably but it should show something). I would suspect a problem at this point. My old one usually had 5 gallons left in the tank at 0 miles to empty consistantly.
It will get you in trouble. I can have my guage needle sitting on "E" with the low fuel light on, and it STILL says I can go 70 or 80 miles. I must cry FOUL!!
The readout in my X wont reset until I shut the truck off, and restart , it also pulls the trick of being on E, saying 50miles left. I did test it once, and rode on it till i had 5miles left, didn't run out. I think it's hit or miss

I think you have a problem Houston. What year is your truck? My '04 resets automatically everytime I fill up and is pretty accurate.
I had the same problem on my 250. The display reads about 300 miles to empty on a full tank of fuel, and should read close to 600+ with around 17 MPG. The dealer worked on it for several days with no result, and said to wait awhile and bring it back in again (I think he just blew me off). I am planning a trip to a new dealer within a few weeks to see if they can fix it; I also have the occasional dead pedal from startup issue to have them look at.
My truck seems to use the average mileage of the previous tank in its distance to empty calculation. If I have been driving in the city, the distance to empty is about 550 miles. If I then begin towing, the distance to empty calculation is wrong for my current fuel consumtion. The overhead usually shows about 200 miles to empty when I am running on empty. When I refuel now, the distance to empty now reads about 350 miles which is accurate if I am towing, but wrong if I am back driving in the city.
Mine is very accurate. I keep a separate log book for mileage and they are always the same. I still do not trust the "miles till empty" though. I do religiously reset the computer each time I fill up.
