Okay, I'm back again. Just a reminder, my 94' was considered a total after getting T-boned. To make the long story short, the van was parked in my garage with the right front collapsed and right corner panel and door bashed in and right tire torn. I needed to move it to make room for a garage door repair.
Called a towing company to have to moved to a friend's place, the towwer asked if I had a spare to make the move easier. As soon as he put it on, I said, "DUH". All this time (since Feb. 2004), I thought I could have done the same thing and drove it around. Well, I come to find out, my wishes were too good to be true. I drove around the block only to find the right wheel was tracking wrong and at an angle, my steering wheel was wanting to turn by itself. The towwer said it's probably just a broken axle and needs to be re-aligned.
Here's my question: Let's assume the frame is not bend out of shape and maybe it's only the replacement of a front end axle, how easy is this? And the cost of the parts?
It might be possible I might get my trustworthy van back to life.
Well I am sure you have a AWD van. THe CV axle is a easy replacement. Just jack up the front and remove the tire. Make sure you losen the Nut on the CV axle while the tire is down. Remove shock and lower ball joint. You might need to to knock-out the Tie Rod as well "Can't remember" The axle will slide out the front then the engine.
Ughhhh....a tie-rod I think I can manage, but that A-frame unit sounds either expen$ive or too much to try to repair myself. I guess it means going to the junk yard and finding those pieces.
