The Lightning engines will not go, unless you want to cut the front end up and basically redesign it from scratch. You have to extend the fron clip, redo the entire front suspension, including mounts and brake systems, modify the firewall, etc. I only know of one person who has made a 351 fit into the front end, and from what I understand, he says he does not advise it and would not do it again.
My personal advise is blueprint and build a 302 and put in. Maybe add a 323 Stroker kit. You can put a 347 Stroker in, but I keep hearing negative things about the 347, so I won't recommend what I have never used personally. Buy an Eaton M90 or M112 supercharger, fab an intake, and put it on. I am running an Eaton M90. Does really well...
You are proposing a giant project.
The 2002 Lightning engine is a 5.4L. If you found an engine, you will need a new engine bay wiring harness overlay, PCM, torque converter, and trans (your trans will not hold the torque of the engine), as well as a separate cooling system for the intercooler (rad, hoses, resovoir, and electric water pump). Don't forget strengthened motor/trans mounts either. Once you get these, start redesigning the driveshafts since they will become pretzels shortly after. Then comes the rear end, you will also grenade the weaker ring and pinion. Time to upgrade the axle to the corporate 10.25".
For all the money and hassle (even though it would be very cool to do), you may want to just go to Vortech and get their system.
I'm doing this exact project to my Super Duty, so I have much research involved in this.
