Hello, New to this. Just bought a used 2002 f250 PSD it has 95000 miles on it.
I have researhed the forum postings on transmissions, many good listings, but have not seen this type of issue posted.
When the truck is cold (in texas not that cold) but has sat for a period of time (in excess of 4 to 6 hours) and I go to shift the truck into gear, it takes about 60 to 90 seconds before the transmission will engage into any gear.
Once the truck has warmed up the truck appears to shift into gear normally.
I had a T-bird that wasn't serviced often enough and was exhibiting the same symptoms you have. I had it serviced and knowing the risks of the service killing or fixing the tranny I lucked up. What I found on this one was the fluid was worn out. It wasn't burned or smelly, just worn.
