I know that an exhaust shop will not cut off a catalytic converter, but if you already have the cat removed will most shops weld on a piece of pipe to reconnect the exhaust system? I am trying to avoid having to use clamps between the Y-pipe and muffler section to avoid any leaks. Thanks.

well do you blame them here in north carolina it is a $50,000 fine to cut one off and not put one back if it came with a cat.....if it did not come with a cat on it they will be happy to work on it but if it came with one and it is not on or it is gutted out you are up the creek with out a boat......
In Ca They Can Only Replace It If It's Bad. You Can't Cut Off A Perfectly Working Cat Just To Replace It With A High Flow Cat. But Just Like Everywhere Else, There Is Always Someone That Is Willing To Do Anything For $$$.
HEY BSHORT; They wife drives my 95 Rover Disco that has a 4.6 litre instead or the 3.9, cam, "hot" chip, Borla exhaust with Carsounds high flow cats. When the dealer did extended warranty repair (5-speed input seal) replace they dropped the cats on the shop floor, later one rattled. You want parts department they said and $ 1,300. I went for Carsound for $140 a pair and installed myself. Smog test idle, 4 ppm of 100 max, 2,500 rpm test, 5 ppm of 180 max, 1.1% CO max I had .001% and .000. I replaced both so the engine has the same backpressure. For three months I ran with gutted cats and it stunk like my 68 FE CS wow them cats must work. The performance went up with high flow cats verse stock cats, gutted verse high flow there was very little difference and i'm legal. The "hot" chip goes rich 12.6:1 from 3/4-full throttle verse the factory lean out, this is a "WOW" chip that passes smog. NUFF B S N 4 NOW! Carl
