I have a turbo timer on mine that I purchased from shop diesel and it works great,I keep mine running for two minutes after the key is turned off.it is kinda pricy but so is the price of the turbo..
I have the X-Monitor gauge package with the CES (cool engine shutdown) module. You can set the module to the desired shutdown temperature and the truck will continue to clank away until the temp is reached, or until a five or ten minute timeout value is reached, or until the brake pedel is depressed - which ever comes first.
I have mine set to 350 deg F. (pre-turbo) and in general it doesn't take more than 30 seconds to drop down to 350 from general unloaded driving. I live at the top of a hill that has a 8 to 10% grade and I see 800+ temps heading up the hill sometimes, but by the time I've pulled into the driveway only a block off the hill the temps are down to the 450 range and often down to 350 by the time I've backed into my driveway.
