In the month I have had the truck ('99 F350 4x4 PSD), I have noticed the time cranking the engine before it starts seems to vary. Sometimes it will light right off, especially when cold, and sometimes it cranks longer before starting. Never takes more than about 3-4 seconds, but I'm wondering: does anyone else's PSD do the same thing?
Pik my 99 F250 4X4 PSD start times seem to vary also. Starter and batteries both replaced within the last 6 months for other reasons but doesn't seem to effect how long it cranks. New Bosch starter does seem to spin the motor a good bit faster then the original one that crapped out on me.
OK. Thanks for the answers. And the info on the Bosch starter. I guess I should stop being paranoid unless everyone is out to get me, which I KNOW they are... lol
You have to give the high pressure oil pump a bit of cycling time to build up pressure so the injecters can do thier work. So the engine must be cranked over a revolution or two before you can expect it to start.
PIK I have an 02/F-250/PSD/4X4/Lariat and mine has the same starting
characteristics. I was also wondering if I had problems. Looks like everythings
OK.
Thanks
When I first got my 03/F-250/4X4/7.3 PSD in May of this year it had 30,000 miles on it, and would start first crank, I was impressed. Not knowing what condition the fuel filter was in, I changed it. Now it takes 3 to 4 seconds of cranking before it starts. When I changed the filter I didn't drain anything from the fuel bowl. Could that make a difference in cranking time?
