aiight i just got my truck back from the shop and that cost me 213$ for the bolt ordeal... anyway, so i get back, turn the key and Nothing! so i jump the starter soleniond and it starts just fine.. driving down the road i realize my check oil lights on (problem #1) and i pull over and check the oil, the oil is fine.. so im assuming my sending unit is wrong?? how do i fix this? any other possible problem w/ that?
Problem #2 i start my truck up again and there is the deathdefiing noise, so i call the mechanic and he says its the starter (which is brand new which u prolly know from my last post) so i get down there and bang on it, noise is still there, so i go to autozone and they say my starters alignment is off, so i buy a shimmydinger and i put that on and the noise is even louder!!!!!! i mean come on , what the heck lol. wow
quack
Similar thing happened to my grandma's Bronco II. I didn't read up how the bolt ordeal ended, but what happened to her was that the teeth on her flywheel had gotten slightly munched and it prevented the the starter from fully engaging. If the flywheel didn't get replaced with the bolt problem, I recommend having that looked at.
el conquistador how about you start posting replies if and or when you actually have seomthing good to say... i dont know recall u giving me any help with any of my problems. dont post unless u have a solution to a problem.
drop out your starter and visually inspect your flywheel for chips and places where the starter may be making improper contact with the flywheel. you may need more than one shim on the starter too... could also be a bad starter never trust the idiots that work for autozone most could get lost trying to get out of a paper bag

sorry to ruffle your feathers bud, but if you expect only posts with solutions then your expecting too much (for the most part.). with that aside, you should pull the starter and inspect it for visible damage, then take it to autozone and have it tested/replaced. It's not a solution but It's a start.
by the way, i said that meaning that i know where your coming from and not to be mean. sorry for not making myself clear.

yeah i took it in and they said that the starter was fine, it didnt make any noise there, so im assuming the flywheel is the problem...which is why im so frustrated! im a 17 year old kid who just spent 2 weeks pay for a starter, then anoteher 2 weeks pay for the shop to pull the tranny, and here goes another two weeks pay...
oh and sorry for being so harsh el conquistador.. it just made me mad cuz i just my truck back today and so far like nothing has gone rihgt.. looks like it's goin back tot he shop tomoorw
well i think im definetly going to have to do that. cuz well i mean, im the reason for this problem, but they should have been the solution.. and they quite obviously werent, but i dont know what they can do about the starter, im kind of doubtful that is it the fly wheel, especially since this just started out of no where, one time i started it and there was no noise, next time i started it and this problem started. it's just so weird. and im confused..
What level was your oil at? If i park my truck on a incline, and the oil is down a little the light comes on. I just usually add a quart if it comes on on level ground. I've never had any malfunctions with my check oil light. How many miles do you have on your truck since your last change?
I've never messed with the starter, so i guess i wouldnt really know. I just think its kinda funny that it worked when you brought it into the shop, and now it doesnt. Good luck buddy. Hope you get 'er all figured out
well maybe your right about that, it says i need to add a quart, so you sound right.. also my oil pressure seems low, it is always on the low side but every once and a while it will show normal, so im almost wondering about if i have a bad sensor
yeah, im thinkin i am definetly taking it back in, cuz before i took it in, the starter worked just fine, and now, 2 starts after i get it back, the starter is all screwed up, so hopefully they will take care of it
yeah, i know how bad it sucks blowing a whole paycheck, and not having anything. dont worry about what your pressure says on your dash. That is not telling you anthing usefull. The oil pressure sensor for your gauge, and the sensor for the check oil light are two different things. I replaced the one for my guage, its closer than my old one was, but its still a little off.
I woud still be thinking about the flywheel. I was watching the bolt issue, and I remember when you said you started her up with the bolt inside.... You also said there was a terrible noise. It is possible there is 1 or more chipped teeth. And since the starter is only making contact with part of the wheel during starting it may only make noise when it comes in contact with the bad part.
If I was the mechanic and you told me all about what happened before, I think I would have inspected the whole flywheel while I was in there. Also, do you see any signs of oil loss or leaks now?
When my grandma's flywheel went, it would not start because the bendix would slam against the worn teeth and not grab but make a very bad noise. We bump started it and it went fine, then started perfectly for the next week or two until the flywheel ended up at the same worn spot again.
I have been following your talk on funny noises the starter makes.
I replaced the starter on my Ma's van. The new starter will make a differant noise than the old one. Its just the way the teeth new gear on the new starter meshes with the teeth of the flywheel. The new starter on my Ma's van makes more of a high pictched whine than the old starter. Also, the shims that you put on the starter are suposed to move the starter gear closer or farther away from the flywheel. Do some experimenting.
