Need some help on pricing. I have a 1993 Ford Explorer Sport, 2wd,
auto with v6. Front engine oil seal is leaking. Anybody have know
of what it would cost to have replaced?
No prior on the cost. I had a 92' 4.0L V6 Pushrod. A small leak developed in the front of the engine after about 120K miles. The leak was from the timing chain cover. Now on my 95' I'm starting to see the same leak develop.
I remember looking at the manual. For both the crankshaft seal and the timing chain cover gasket, the Oil Pan must be removed. So based on this, I'd guess that a shop would estimate 6 hours of labor. Parts should be about $30 (seals, new antifreeze, etc.). At $75hr, could be around $500. Ford dealer, add 20%.
I think I have the same problem. My '96 EB 4x4 developed an oil leak. The shop I took it to said it was the timing cover pan gasket that was leaking both oil and coolent. They said that they would need to pull the motor to replace the gasket and the oil pan gasket. Cost: $1240.00
The questions I have are: Is it dangerous to not fix it? I can live with parking over an oil pan to save $1200. Does anyone know of another quick fix to stop the leak like silicon sealer, etc?
