They are for high rpm engines, so that they dont pump up at high rpm, which would leave the valves open slightly when they should be closed. They're noisey, be glad you didn't get 'em.
i think i got them when i ordered my crane 941 cam and lifter set, kurt you may remember my post in the FE forumn about my lifters bleed out fast and i have a lifter tick.
Yep, you didn't say anything about having fast-bleed lifters in the other post. The ticking with those lifters is to be expected and is normal, just as long as it doesn't do it going down the road.
The one nice thing is you know that you are getting good oil flow thru the lifters so they don't get varnished up. The FE lifters do not pass oil up the pushrods to provide oil for the rockers, like the small blocks, and thus flow way less oil, thus running the risk of getting sticky and then getting REALLY noisy. I remember hearing lots of Fords tapping down the road and significantly fewer C**vy 265/283s as a kid. The 292's were solid lifter, and the FE's flowed little oil thru the lifter and got sticky.
