I have a 77 f250 that now has a 400ci in it and it tends to over heat. I've replaced the water pump, thermostat, upper and lower hoses, flushed the cooling system, and the fan shroud is in place. I've been thinking about putting ether a flex fan or a fan clutch in it, but I don't know witch would be the best, or if ether would even help (also thought about adding an electric fan with thermostat).
I've also been wonder if timing could be the issue. The under hood sticker is gone and I haven't been able to find any info on what the timing should be.
There is always a load on the truck from the cab-over camper that stays on it so I need to keep the temp down when I dive it. (It's a real pain having to stop all the time when I'm trying to go camping to let the engine cool down)
cheb,
Is there actual evidence of overheating?
Does it actually boil over? Does it ping? Is it hard to get to restart when at temperature? That is, does the starter lug or turn over slowly?
How long does it take to overheat?
Get a few of these questions answered, and I'll try and fill in the blanks.

Torq,
It tends to overheat above 40-45 MPH when going up hill. Once over the hill It will cool back down. When it over heats and I'm not watching the after-market gage it will boil over.
dfish,
It is hard to restart and turns over slowly, and it can happen withing 10-15 miles if I go up a long hill under load.
If the radiator is REALLY clogged, the radiator flush is ineffective. You may need to take the radiator to a radiator shop and have it rodded out or recored.
