V10 Big Trouble!
I first smelled coolant and pulled off to check. I saw a little foam in the plastic tank. I added some water and then drove another half hour. I stopped again and could tell that the coolant was going somewhere but there was none on the ground. I added more fluid and a few miles down the road, I could see the coolant boil out the of the block. I would have guessed that it was the pump or thermostate except it happened so slowly.
The shop has not gotten to the job yet but while talking to one of the guys in the know, he said that the V10 is an expensive engine to repair. He said that if there is something serious I should consider getting a Ford crate engine for about 7K installed.
Any thoughts?
Did they check your oil cooler?
I doubt that they checked anyghing. I think they just saw coolant in the oil and said new engine. I am having it towed to a place where I can work on it and tear it apart myself. I may be a little rusty, but it is within my ability. I am having trouble finding any manuals. I guess I will have to go to Ford and get theirs. Even if I tear it down and find that it needs a new motor, at least I will know. They said:
We Put drive shaft in, started it up, drove into bay, shut it down, wouldn't restart because it was hydrolic locked and pushed it out of the bay.
The more I thought about it the more upset I was that they didn't want to do anything but replace the motor. What the hey, I might as well have a diesel and gas engine apart in my garage
Again, thanks for the words. It is nice to hear from people and their expeiences. I would never thought of oil cooler. Since I saw compression, I am sure it is a head.
john.
Our extended warranty (CSP) endorsed by Good Sam camping Club refused to cover the engine because it had a pre-existing condition, etc etc... or some loophole. When we told them a lubericated mechanical part failed (bent rod, scored cylinder) it was "yes", but you have to tell us why. The bottom line they didn't want to pay & didn't!!
